Video game artwork need not be restriction within the confines of the video games themselves, nor do they have to take on the traditional media of a hand-drawn or digitally-produced image. One of the more interesting alternatives to the traditional canvas is the Xbox 360 faceplate. This the front cover for the Xbox 360 home gaming console.
The standard Xbox 360 faceplate is rather generic and comes with very little artistic expression. As such, there are several limited edition replacement faceplates that are made available commercially. Further still, individual artists have come up with a series of custom creations of their own, including a few that bring the faceplate into the third dimension.
Just because Nintendo’s Super Mario will likely never make his way onto a Microsoft system does not mean that the iconic plumber can’t make an unofficial cameo on the exterior of the machine.
The mario faceplate is PRETTY epic. O_O. That’s so awesome.
