I believe they have a good grasp on color composition as all of the designs really stood out even though they are placed close together. I think illustrations are better as a visual impact compared to a traditionally looking logo. Just recently I got my mascot design done for an event I'm chairing at MascotDesignCorner.com and the final illustration was awesome. For the price I paid it was a bargain. I think I won't go back to plain old logo anytime soon as I think character illustration is the way to go. The illustrations from SOS Factory looked awesome.
